Often, a polymer layer (e.g. PU) is added to a base layer of non-woven or woven fibers. UPPER MATERIALS Leathers This extremely durable material primarily stems from the meat industry, where skins are mostly considered waste. Depending on the quality and price level, leather can show different surface structures such as full grain, corrected grain, PU-coated (action) leather, nubuck or split suedes. Microfibers Microfibers are synthetics as well, but with a higher quality level. They are used as a (vegan) alternative to suede nubuck/nappa leathers of animal origin. Microfibers show impressive performance levels in terms of abrasion, tensile strength, breathability and weight. Textiles Textiles, whether woven or knitted and based on natural or synthetic fibers, are increasingly integrated into footwear. Textiles are suitable for all kinds of applications, as a wide variety of properties can be achieved by finishing or blending the individual fibers with other materials.
